Well, I'm amazed that I am not in this boat alone. I am making a hand appliqued quilt of cats from Darcy Ashton's book. I have spent endless hours working on it (of course, it still is not finished) and I wanted to give it to my sister-in-law who took care of my cats (and dogs) after I moved away from the small town where we both lived. My husband, her brother, developed Alzhimers (spelling) and I moved away and brought him to the city where all my children lived so they could help me. Anyway, I keep thinking will I part with this when I finish? I really want to give it to her, but she is in ill health and the person that would inherit this quilt is her only son who, in my opinion, wouldn't deserve to have it. BUT, I probably will finish it up and give it to her. She would be so tickled and proud. But I cetainly thought about keeping it. ha ha

There is no such thing as quilty in quilting. See how the two words start out with the same 5 letters? I think that if you made a quilt and worked really hard on it and fell in love with it then you would feel more guilty if you gave it away. If you have the time to make another one for a gift then go for it. I made a baby quilt and pillow for someone who I worked with for a month and I regret that I didn't take any pictures and I wish I had kept it for someone in my family as it was with penguins and a fabulous aray of colors that I will never be able to duplicate.
