I bought a Kenmore 583 a couple months back and the darn thing is trying to run over me! I start out with it going slow, and then for no reason it will suddenly speed up for a couple inches (heading straight for my fingers) and then slow back down to normal for a bit. It just keeps this up as I sew. Looks like its headed to the shop. . .

Careful with the pressure on the foot control. Kenmore has been made by JANOME for a long time.

oh really? I always thought they were singers as they use singer needles and parts. lol, shows what I know!
Love the machine, but it does the speeding up thing without me adding pressure on the foot control.

Yes, have the foot pedal checked out. That's usually the problem with that symptom.

I had a serger made by Toyota. Seriously. Bought it at JoAnn's back in the 80's. Just gave it away before I moved.

I was just getting ready to contribut that I JUST gave my Toyota sewing machine to my sons school. It too, came from Joanns - but on closeout in the late '90s.

Was a great machine to start with!!
