    Default Kid's Quilt Size?

I was thinking about making some quilts for kids. I want them to be big enough to be useful but small enough that a kid around 5 to 12 yrs old can pack them around easily.
I want to make them from flannel with cotton batting inside. What is a good size to aim for? I know the question is a little vague but I don't know which kids are getting them yet either.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Rodney

Recently, I've been making mine 40X50. Seems like a size that kids like and by keeping the width under 42", you don't have to piece the back.

I made quilts for nephews. They were 60 by 40 inches and quillows. Thinking I would not keep pillow on quilt but make a bag they can carry them in. They loved them and used them to make dens .

I made one for my grand-nephew for his birthday, and it is 39 x 46. I think anything in that range is good. The kids will probably not think about the size too much, if it is a theme or color that they like.

I make quilts for foster kids for when they attend Royal Camp out here in California. The minimum requirements is 50" x 60".

I like to make my quilts 42 x 72 -- that way when they watch TV the quilts will cover them from chin and over their feet.

I love the quillows idea. They could fold it up in the pocket on the quilt. I think 40" by 60" would be good.

My girls love the quillows. I made them to take to football games, but they use them in the winter and put their feet in the pocket as they watch TV.

Thank you very much for the replies. The quillows are a great idea. I'll most likely use it.
    Thanks,
    Rodney
