Kona Fabrics and Robert Kaufman Fabrics

There was an article put on this group by Kaufman about different qualities of the KOna solids. They claim that it is all the same whether bought at QS or at the chain stores. Aseasrch might bring it up. I wonder where you got your information from.

And Kona solids, the top of the heap ones from the good stores, are 3.60 per yard in quantities of 1 yard or more at Hancocks of Paducah (not to be confused with Hancocks Fabrics), hardly what I would call expensive!! There is absolutely no change in the quality of Kaufman fabrics that I have noticed and I buy a lot of it...solids and batiks especially. Please don't start spreading fearful rumors about quality fabrics and their makers. It just plain isn't true.

But in the end no matter who says what, some people will still disagree! :)

Would you mind posting the link for Hancocks of Paducah? Our Hancocks (know its not the same but only fabric store except Hobby Lobby here) is beginning to look like a rummage store and they're carrying more decorative items than ever. I can go elsewhere for my decorative items. I don't need mirrors and candleholders from them?

The best place to get information is from the horse's mouth...
Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Box 59266, Greenmead Station
Los Angeles, CA 90059-0266
Please let them know if you have problem with a fabric of theirs, where you bought it, the date, and your receipt if you still have one. I've dealt with them directly, and I can tell you they're great consumer advocates and will help you all they can. I have a short list of fabric companies I love, and in my 23 years in the quilt business, Kaufman is in my top 5 all-time favorite companies to do business with because they care about their customers' well-being.

You made me go look at my two Kona black bolts ~ the new one that I haven't broken into yet is made in Thailand ~ and other one (almost thru it) is Pakistan... I don't like the way the new bolt feels, it almost feels like a poly/cotton, not a 100% cotton... Think I'll see if I can find my receipt...

It wouldn't be so distressing if these lines weren't so gosh-darned expensive! Am I right? When I'm paying $12.00+ per yard for Kaufmann and the quality slips, but the price doesn't, then I just have to stop buying it. But I make sure that the shop owners know why I'm not spending my $$ with them for that reason.
I also let my computer help me by sending letters and e-mails to the companies involved. I may only be one voice, but I feel I am representative of so many others who just don't take the time to express their opinions. I feel it is my responsibility to pass along why I am finding it more difficult to purchase something. And on the flip side, when I find something that I feel justifies spending my money on, I make sure to let that company/store/website know why I am buying from them, too.
Businesses want repeat business. It keeps their doors open and the lights on. If Kaufmann suddenly realizes that cheaper quality is not going to translate into the profit margin they are accustomed to receiving, they may change back, but who knows?
I say, get the best quality you can afford to buy and use it as much as possible. Keep the good suppliers in business for all of us. The chaff shall fall by the wayside eventually ( or so they say).

I did tell Dr. Bob (Superior Threads) at a local quilt show how much I love Superior's threads. I also thanked Eleanor Burns at an AQS show for her wonderful TV shows and her books.
But that's not enough. We (quilters) are a huge part of the "fabric-art-craft-hobby" economy: it's time we use our clout.
