Lap quilt size?

I guess it depends on who/what it's for.
When my mom was making "lap quilts" as a charity project for nursing homes, they were approximately 36 x 45.
I think they were mainly to cover people's legs and laps when they were in wheelchairs. If they were too big, they got caught in the wheelchair wheels.

But they were supposed to be big enough to tuck around their laps. A 36 x 36 would be about a lap napkin for me. :?
