If he is nine by the time he is 11 cars, trucks etc will no longer be age appropriate I say go with plaids or boyish colors, blues, greens bowns somethnig he could use for years to come not for a limited amount of time. The only fabric I could think of for a nine year old into adulthood would be a woodland or lodge scene. Most guys young and old never tirer of deer and cabins etc.

Adult type Sport themes/team logos will follow him for many years to come. Video games tend to come and go in popularity. JMHO or you could be making him another quilt in a year or two

My boys have quilts with camping stuff on them - they love them - so much so that one needs to be replaced as soon as I can find the time!! :)

Well what does he like you could do a military quilt, a scooby doo quilt , car quilt (either realistic or the movie ones), hunting or fishing. You have endless possibilites. If you own a embroidery machine you could embroidered things on that he likes and figure out blocks to go with it.

:) Use a mascline print and make a quillow. I have made tons of them, but now, I don't put the fabric on top to put quilt into. easier for kids to fold up. :D

I have made for my grand boys (5 & 8 years old) quilts for Christmas this year. And I had the same problem until I decided to look at what books they were reading and what movies interested them. Guess what dianasaur and Spider Man. I used the crazy curves or drunked path. ??? You'll have to forgive me I'm new at quilting and the names for patterns. I put the design in the curved part and a bold design in the square. Hope that makes sense. Good luck. :D
