Lesson learned....check your feed-dogs!!!
I have a Brother 1500 for quilting on my frame and occasionally attaching binding. It does wonderful at piecing and attaching binding, but I try to leave it on the frame to encourage myself to quilt more! I have other awesome machines to piece with.
Well, I must have decided that the Big Brother was the one to put the binding onto the wedding quilt recently. And...being the good girl that I try to be, I did put the machine straight back onto the frame so I wouldn't start piecing with it!
I went to quilt a quilt today and it was making a horrible racket after a short bit. I immediately stopped quilting and checked everything that I could get to while it was on the frame. I had hubby help me take it off the frame while leaving the quilt attached. I searched and cleaned for about an hour (had just cleaned and oiled it recently so there wasn't much cleaning to be done...more looking around for the problem). I attached the sewing foot on it and went to put my feed dogs up, figuring I should probably try it out before I put it back on the frame.....
You guessed it! My feed dogs were up!!! I forgot to put them down after sewing on the binding!!! I could hardly believe it! After all that looking around at it, I could have just checked my feed dogs and been half finished with the quilt!
I do have that mental checklist that says check this, this, that and the other, but I guess I missed that one!
Lesson learned is that I probably need to use the Big Brother just for quilting and use the Little Brother for binding!
