    Default Lesson Learned/Remembered

I posted the other day about stretching my comfort zone, and today I'm making a Carpenter's Wheel block for a pillow front. (I've loved the look of this block, but a number of pieces so it's been sitting on "the List" for a while.) I even drew it up on graph paper & used colored pencils to get my controlled scrappy choices in just the right spots. I'm following Deb Tucker's Country Fair pattern (Fon's & Porter's Love of Quilting mag. Nov/Dec 2015) and using 2 of her rulers I have; I like her approach to piecing certain blocks. Got my 8 flying geese done, trimmed them up to the perfect size, EXCEPT I forgot the seam allowances and trimmed them to finished size! In my head I hear my Mom saying "well you need to go to your room to think about this and slap some sense into yourself". Making 8 more flying geese tomorrow...

Don't you just hate it when this type of error happens. And, I love your Mom's saying. LOL

Sounds like you are moving along nicely. Isn't it amazing how clear our mother's voices can be sometimes even though we wer probably only 1/2 listening at the time.

I have done that before. I just trimmed a PP 2.5" pieced square to 2.5" x 2.25". OOPS!

Bummer! I drafted my sheep block to be 14-1/2 inches but it somehow sewed up at 14-1/4 . I could easily fix that by adding the 1/4 inch to the pattern but I have already finished 2 blocks. Since I don't want them to be orphans I will finish the rest of the blocks at 14-1/4 . Just stay calm and sew on!

As long as you didn't cut too close to the points of the geese, you can just make a smaller version too!

Were you tired at the time? That's my Mom asking. "If you're making silly mistakes and getting frustrated, you're too tired to sew and it's time to stop."

More times than I care to count in 35 years of quilting.Usually it happens when I am tired or in a rush.
