IMHO the only way to completely avoid any stiffness from any fusible product is to not do raw edge fusible applique but instead do either wool felt applique, or do applique with ultra suede (neither of which require fusing and can be raw edge as neither product frays) and hand or machine stitch it or do traditional turned applique, either needle turn or prepared and machine stitched down.

The package says use MonoPoly as the top thread, iron and then immediately remove the top thread.
I just love, love, love fusible thread ! first I use it for all my applique I do freezer paper, first, I cut freezer paper out just the size I want finished, them cut fabric 1/4 inch bigger, then on ironing board place fabric right side down, place freezer paper shinny side , fold 1/4 inch over and press with dry iron, do all the way around. when cool you can remove freezer paper, then put little bits 1 inch or so of the fusible thread under the fold, press with dry iron, use pressing sheet, then you can place where you want the applique put a couple of bits of the FT and press in place then stich around the edges, how ever you want, by hand by machine, what ever stich you want. I find this my fav way of applique, can also put fusible in bobbin and hem pants, skirts, binding on quilts, so many ways to use it, not stiff at all either

The bobbin thread is ironed away leaving the top thread to remove.
