I think I know the two shops you are talking about. I am not a fan of pets in the shop - I have enough cat hair at home! But the other shop is an experience. It has so much fabric - a lot of it is older, but much of it is new. And no one has ever glared at me for shopping there.

Sorry you had such a bad experience.

What a waste of time and material.

I can't come up with anything that compares to what you are describing. Most of the time, I am quite pleased with the shops I find. They may not all be exactly to my taste, but they are not offensive! I had one shop where the fabric was rather flimsy and not a great selection (which was too bad, it was a huge shop and sitting right on a highway - such a great size and location!). The shop person never even spoke to my friend and I the whole time we wandered around. One positive though, she had a lovely set of wing-back chairs and reading lamps and table in the corner where all the books and patterns were. Really invited you to sit and review the items before purchasing. That alone was enough to keep it off the Shop of Horrors list! :D

My only complaint with the LQS here is, I can't afford to buy anything...

They're not 'in business', they're 'in addiction'. Probably came about as a way to get the DH off the back of the owner/quilter.
    Or they're simply dillusional.
    Yuck.

There's a LQS here that sounds similar, although not as bad. And truth be told, it's a GEM! It's a converted barn out in the sticks, has chickens wandering around the yard. It's a one-woman show, and that woman knows EVERY SINGLE BOLT that is in her shop. And if she doesn't have the fabric you're looking for, she can tell you who does and how to get there. She is constantly getting new shipments, so there are boxes being unpacked all the time, and bolts of fabric leaning up against the shelves EVERYWHERE. However, I love the place! It's a treasure hunt every day!
