I have heard comments about two particular shops around here-- packed to the gills some fabrics older, etc.
But I have to say that I love both shops. Dirt and grime bother me on the fabrics I buy at a shop, but that there are many bolts and stacks of bolts doesn't.
Both of these shops have someone in it who can tell you the exact locations of the fabric you ask about, unless they've never heard of it.
these two shops do not stop at buying the fabrics that go with a pattern, they buy the whole line so you can make the pattern in any color way.

SouthPStitches I believe I have been to the two story place you are talking about, went there looking for a particular fabric. they even advertise teas and quilting retreats. they do sell online and the prices are high IMHO If you are looking for a long past pattern, they just might have it. the woman and her husband know every bolt in the place too. my only thought walking in to that place was OMG if there was ever a fire...good heavens!
I have had great luck in Greene, prices good, little barn/shed, not much room for people though. Nice owner.

OK guys, easy on the dueling banjos and rednecks... I live in the middle of the "sticks" in the Appalaccias!!
We have two old quilt/fabric shops within 30 miles and they are as clean and neat as pins..... no dustbunnies there:

Had one favorite shop like that, no animals and fabric not on the floor, some order but not much, fabric at a discount, loved it. For some reason, unknown its closed, Sheriff notice on door. Will miss it.

I know what you mean. We have a shop here which is perfectly clean and kept up however they have so much fabric that it is impossible to actually see what they have. I find it extremely frustrating to try and find anything so I ask for help finding things. They act like it is the worst thing that they have ever heard that someone might want some help. I don't go there anymore.
