    how big would you make logs?

    I would make 6" squares.

    I agree, 6 inches. A smaller quilt, smaller squares.

    How many logs do you want in each square? 1.5" logs work great for a 12" block. I've seen folks do logs as big as 2.5" It would be a bit harder to do 1" logs if you want to scale it down for a 6" block.
