No need to paper piece. Log Cabin is easy and fun!

Amma sent me a paper piece pattern for 12 log cabin blocks. Here is the link to the pattern and a photo of my finished quilt. Good luck.http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-68984-1.htm#1695615

I have made a bunch or them using Eleanor Burns method, Quilt in a Day. She uses big strips, I think 2 1/2" and has you sew the 1st log together with the center as a strip. The center is also 2 1/2". You then cut the sewn together strips at 2 1/2 " and lay those blocks the long way on your next strip. In all you are simply sewing strips and cutting each one as if you're strip piecing. I hope it's clear, but her directions are so clear for a first quilt I loved it. She would even tell you, now you're done, get that fabric out of your way!

I must have made 6 or 7 all sizes because i just loved sitting there and ripping the blocks off.

I have never paper pieced but I have heard that it is more accurate. I use my 1/4" foot

I am doing the Prairie Woman's quilts and I'm stuck on the Log Cabin. The cutting is killing me...I got the Civil War Era Fabrics sent in the kit as 2" wide strips that I have to cut into 1.5" and this is just tedious. Are there any hints or tricks?

I paperpiece mine but I am putting thirteen strips or more into my two inch block I think if I were doing a larger block I would simply cut the strips to width and then cut them for length after I had added the strip to the block

Wow! For that you need a magnifying glass. Be sure to post it when you're done. Tiny piecing is so impressive. I love to see it at quilt shows, but don't understand how someone can be so meticulous.

    Hi,
My 1st love is PP. If you have never tried this method, take a piece of scrap material, photostat a pattern on the inter-met and see what you think. In my Quilt Guild I am the only one that PP's. You either love it or hate it.
I just completed a winter scene for a Christmas present. Took about 4 months but it was well recieved.

I'm in the same boat, but a little different----I have saved cut 1 1/2" strips for years. prefer logs already cut to size.
but when you start on a whole box of them, have to decide which size you cut out of each, etc it becomes one large headache. so I am going to use the Eleanor Burns method & check each block carefully & square up as I go. I probably have enough strips for 4 quilts ! but I have never seen an ugly log cabin.
