I have been looking at this quilt and looking at it and I know I can do it, I just have so much else to do first lol...anyway, I am sure you all have been here.

    http://www.amishcountrylanes.com/Pages/hs4756.shtml

So today, I decided to draft that one pattern piece and show how I did it. Then maybe later I will go ahead and make a freezer paper template for paper piecing and do three blocks to see how they will go together, I will be using scraps for this.

    1. first I started with my 8.5 ruler and cut a strip that size.

    2. I line the 60 degree line on my ruler and cut the first angle and turned it around and cut the second angle. The distance of the second cut must be exactly the same as the strip, which was 8.5. Since my ruler was exactly that size, I just aligned the angle and cut. Look at the ruler and see how it is line exactly.

    3. Then I drew 1.25 lines on two sides and 0.75 lines on the other two sides and this is what I got. I wasn't too happy with just a two strip patch...so back to the drawing board. So I cut a strip 12.5. I lined the ruler to the 60 d. I have a pic for you to see the first cut. Then the paper is turned and the second cut made...but.....wait...

I lay my ruler down for the second cut but have to move over 4 inches now as I had cut the strip 12.5. So I draw a line for the 8.5 (the width of the ruler and then move four inches over from that mark, align the degree and cut the second angle.

There you see the diamond and now I will line it as before and I am happy with 4 strips on this patch. No I have to go and number the strips. I start with the bigger ones and erase the lines that are not necessary and now we have a pattern.

I will redo this on freezer paper now. I always do a rough draft on scrap paper that I save.

Need to edit the pattern. I redid the pattern on freezer paper and made all the lines the same size by accident and I like it that way too, so I am leaving it. The lines drawn on the pattern will all be 0.75 (3/4ins.) and the strips cut need to be 1.5 (1 1/4 ins).

I did one block, I like the scrappy but will have all the light sides end in yellow and the dark in the teal print. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

There is the cleaned up pattern with the lines drawn. I was able to get 6 strips when I got the correct size lines drawn lol.

Tomorrow I will take some pics of doing the paper piece on FP for those would like to see it.
