Default Long arm and applique question

I have a quilt that has fusible backed flowers and stems. I want to satin stitch around them. I also want to quilt it on my long arm machine. Which do I do first satin stitch or quilt it?

If you quilt first, your satin stitches are going to go all the way through the quilt and show on the back.

Normally you would satin stitch first. It will also be a lot easier to maneuver just the quilt top through the sewing machine while you're doing the satin stitching.

Do your applique stitching first. Satin stitch needs to have some kind of stabilizer behind it when you stitch or you will get wrinkles or tunneling. I prefer to use a buttonhole or similar to edge stitch. If you like raw edge applique, you can do that as you quilt if you use invisible thread to go 1/8 inch inside each shape. Of course raw edge applique is not as sturdy as other applique.

Satin Stitch then long arm--it's pretty easy to just stitch around that satin stitch--maybe use a monopoly so there's no "visible' thread near the satin stitches.
