Sorry, but no other suggestions. Sharpen your seam ripper!! :-) Put a good movie on, get a bottle of water handy, and get to work! A good idea is to ALWAYS check the back of your quilt when you start quilting, and every so often during. Another suggestion is to put a small practice piece on first, check the tension is correct, and then put your quilt on. But check the quilt, too, to verify it's working OK. I have had disasters like this happen twice, and that was enough to make me check , check, check during the quilting.

That sounds like a plan to me!! :wink: As time consuming and as much as a pain in the patootie as it will certainly be, it's one of those things that you simply have to grit your teeth and get at it. :cry:

Oh, how heartbreaking. Quilt is beautiful and the pattern you chose for quilting looks lovely. Hope it takes way less time and effort to repair than you expect it to!

I have a Gammill as well and you definitely have to wrap the thread around the tension adjuster 1 and 3/4 times. If you ever want to use her machine again let me know and I can tell you the simple adjust the Gammill rep told me. Basically the thread was popping out of the upper tension wheel and there is a little thread guide right before that wheel that needs to be tipped up to the 2 oclock position. You have to loosen a bolt to move the thread guide but it is easy to do. This gives the thread a more natural pull for that tension wheel and the thread can't pop back out causing the mess you see on the back of your quilt.

I'd been having the same problem. That and the thread breaking. We took my machine apart (a midarm) and cleaned it out thoroughly and now I'm not having problems. yes, take it out..you won't be sorry afterwards. I found it was easier to break a few threads in the back and PULL.....they come out much easier on the loopy ones. The tights ones.........well, have a glass of wine and good luck!

I am sorry this happened. Please don't let it affect your relationship with your friend. Yes, I agree the stitches need to come out. I am hoping you can catch that thread on the back and it will pull (slide) so you can clip a long length of thread off with each snip. Good luck. The quilt is pretty and worth the effort on your part to save it.
