show your work every where you can, join guilds, sewing groups. leave cards/fliers at local quilt shops. it is mostly word of mouth, if you have been quilting for people for awhile be sure and tell them to let their quilting friends how to contact you. put out a newsletter sharing any specialty things you offer, and your pricing.
    good luck

Thank you all so much for the great advice. Seems I'm not alone after all!

    Default Me too!

    Marci G.
I read this post and thought to myself..."did I post that?" I too have started a longarm quilting business in Northern California (near Redding) How has advertising worked out for you? What have you done to increase business and customers? I have joined the 2 local guilds and I am having business cards printed out...I'm hoping that the local quilt shops will let me leave some cards at their stores...any other advice?

I LAQ but on weekends only as I have a full time job. My mom belongs to a Senior group that has a meeting once a week, I offered (for a time period) to give them an additional 15% (they all love Senior discounts) on quilting. Not only am I now their favorite quilter, but they have given me many referrals. Please note that they are not really looking for "custom" quilting but more panto "allover". They are on a somewhat limited budget, so they are doing most of their own small quilts but having larger ones LAQ. I have one lady who has been doing a Queen size to give to each of her 12 grandkids. I think I am on #11.
