    I think I would soak them in oxy clean before I tried bleach. The oxy clean may be all they need.

    Thanks to all for your replies. It sounds like slow and careful is the way to go for washing them. I need to outline the purple ones first, then I'll try washing them. Now I need to figure out what to outline them with; the other butterflies' outlines are fuzzier than embroidery floss, but not as coarse as crewel yarn. I'll dig in my stash and see what I can find that's close.

    that sounds kile a great day pretty butterflies. not sure about washing but in a sink of water with oxyclean or something like that maybe

    I just love real life stories. I remember going from Mas. to Maine and being on the turnpike and realising we did not have the .25 for the toll. I just love life.
