Our oldest loves to surf and we are from the Big Island. I have designed a great one for our third child (it came in a dream if you can believe it), but I am at a loss for our oldest. Nothing is falling into place so I thought if you had ideas, I could get past this block! Mahalo nui!

I are happy to find other quilters in Washington. I am attempting my 1st Hawaiian quilt. Are there other members in Washington and do you get together? Thank you :-P

Dover Publishing have an Hawaiian Quilting, 20 blocks book, by Elizabeth Root which I came across recently - much simpler than the paper cutouts I tried to make long ago!!

I am just reading the Aloha Quilt novel. True Hawaiian quilts have a very different aesthetic. They are applique and often just 2 colors.
You might want to make this style. It looks very challenging but cool!

Dang - we just got back from Hawaii on Wednesday and on the last day I was in Quilt Passions (Kona store) where I saw the most delicious patterns. One was a reef quilt - all things one might see when snorkeling. She also had more traditional patterns. WHAT a selection. Good luck finding something that suits.
