I agree with Susan. Singer use to be the best machine to buy but their reputation has not been good for several years.

I have a friend that loves her Kenmore's! She is a big-time quilter and she just bought a new one and loves it.

I vote for the Kenmore. Singer doesn't make a machine like they used to. Mostly plastic parts.

DH said, don't wait for Christmas, my birthday is in October and SIL is coming for a visit then, so we are going for it. She lives in another state and will bring it with her when she comes to NY!!

Glad you went with a Kenmore. I've had mine for 34 years & have never had to take it in for service. It's been a great machine.

i have a singer athena electronic machine and not real happy with it as have had some problems. i have taken it in twice because feed dogs will not stay adjusted and are too low, therefore not assisting with feeding fabric thru - usually have to give the fabric a pull thru manually. also, the needle threader worked at first and now only off and on - have to have the needle at just the right place and some threads do not seem to feed thru it. machine RUNS fine, just these little irritating things.
