I own 2 Paffs, would not trade for any other machine.
I recently visited a Pfaff dealer in Fla. and she told me the new Pfaffs are not made in Germany.
I would check out reader comments before I made a decision.
also test drive. Will the dealer work with you if you have problems?

I just posted this as a separate link, but I REALLY like this machine, and it's on sale for $300, which is a great value! :) Depending on what all he wants to do. I've done 5 quilts on this and don't have any complaints.
