I have made Dozens of little pouches called Bridget's Bagettes, that I intend to use as a gift card holder for the holidays!
They were fun to make and easy and quick. You could put either a gift card of any amount in them, say McDonalds for a child (I made some with child theme's on them, some Iowa State University for college students, or victorian style prints for the daughters ) then put the approperate gift card in them such as a Card from Mcdonalds for a small child or I an I tune card for a pre teen or teenager, or a StarBucks card for a college student or a whatever card, you get the idea. I will try to post a picture of these bags I made! I absolutely HAD to quit making them they were addictive kinda like the fabric boxes.... The pattern I used was a Atkinson Designs called Bridget's Bagette's www.atkinsondesigns.com

IIweezie, Your pouches sound interesting, but I couldn't find the Bridget's Bagette's pattern on the http://Atkinson Design.com site. Would love to see pictures.

    Other good ideas here, too.

Try Table runners, luggage tags, little zippered bags.

Somewhere else I saw a folded fabric christmas ornament that looked like prairie points stacked on the edges of a circle (looked like a star).

I plan to make a couple casserole carriers and some microwave bowl potholders.
    Love to see everyone's ideas!

I have made Christmas pot holders, hot pads and accented dish towels by sewing a fabric strip on the end of a hand towel.

I just saw a blog mentioned somewhere on here (sorry, didn't write it down) where a person had a recipe printed on fabric and then made that into a potholder. So you could do that and use a family recipe or your favorite recipe. They sent to Spoonflower for the recipe printing on fabric, but you could do it on your computer with fabric purchased at most fabric places.

i made a covered casserole just by buying 2 x-large placemats, sewing around 2 sides and adding ribbon to close the opening.
