Not a suggestion about what machine to get, but a suggestion about where to buy one. If you have a Habitat ReStore, check there. Mine always has several machines. I got my 1975 Singer 12 stitch there for $35 and she's now my favorite machine. Also got a Singer in a cabinet for $60. I only wanted the cabinet but the machine was a bonus.
