    i am looking for a pattern that is one big star ,it's not blocks it's one big block does anyone know what this is called thank you

    OMG, You are right it was the colors that threw me off, and the pattern had triangles, but they are just along the edge. I am new at quilting, so you will have to bear with me for awhile! LOL

    I did the tumbling block pattern using the traditional Y-seam approach. Does paper piecing eliminate the need for the Y-seam?

    I'd like to know that too, seeing as how I've never attempted the Y-seam! :-P

    I remember my grandma had only one pattern she used for her quilts and it was this one. She did it all by hand in strips. Then when the 'clan' gathered the ladies all got together for butchering or canning (in season) and at night they would join the strips. I don't think there is even one scrap of them on this earth.     I have this book. Will have to check this out. What is the difference between English paper piecing & American pp? I'm not that familiar with it.
