Default Looking for a sewing machine table insert

    Hi everyone
I having trouble finding a plexy glass top so i can put my machine level with the table . Have seen some and tryed to order but they do not ship to Canada.
All I want is the top to fit my Husqvarna Opal 650 so its nice and level and smooth . Then I,ll cut my opening on the table.
Has any one ever ordered one and if so where .
I could get plexy and cut my own but would never be nice and smooth as a stores .
    Thanks for any tips
    Tom

If you contact one of the online sewing machine places, you can order an insert. You might have to choose a table that has a size that would accommodate your machine and tell them to make the outside to fit that. If your machine is large, you could try the one that fits the Gidget 2. It's a decent size insert. Once you get it, you can trace the outside to the table for the cut out. It looks like these places ship international (for a fee). I think I got mine from Ken's.

If you can cut the plexiglas, surely you can sand it smooth enough. Quiz the guys at the home improvement store and the hardware store about what to use. There are some true artists who hang out on the Vintage and Antique Sewing Machines section on Quilting Board. They could help you.

I order them for customers at the store. If you need one for your cabinet, you order from the maker of the cabinet (Horn, Koala, etc). If you need a stand-alone table, you get them from Dream World/Sew Steady, in Oregon. They only ship to dealers, so you need a shop that has an account with them. Dream World ships to the shop and the shop gets the table to the customer. The 18" X 24" Sew Steady table retails for $69.95. Shipping to Canada may be around $30+. If you know of a shop that carries the Westalee Templates, they are the same company. We don't have a minimum order, so can order one thing at a time from Dream World. If you can't find a local shop in Canada, send me a private message, and I can probably help you out.

Can your sewing machine dealer not get it for you?

I have not dealt with this store, only because I do not have a Husqi!
However, I have been told several times that it is a very good Husqvarna dealer.
I know they deal with other Northern Ontario customers, either by the customer coming south, or snailing items to them.

Another place worth contacting would be ....

    http://www.eddycrest.com/

They make sewing furniture and can also supply the plastic insert, according to the machine make/model. When I bought my desk, I already had the insert, so no need to buy it again!

I am sure that one or both of them will be quite willing to deal with you and ship it to you.
    Good Luck!

I think the bigger challenge would be to get the hole in the plexi cut precisely, so it fits tight against the machine. That's one advantage to buying one ready-made.

Sew Steady makes inserts and has stores in Canada so you should be able to get one.

See if a glass/mirror store can cut what you want. They should have it in stock.

I bought a SewEasi table with two inserts for my Jukis. The only dealer in Canada is in the Yukon but he was great to work with and will cut you an insert for almost any machine. I got my table and both inserts in just over a week shipped to good old rural Ontario.

I can get the plastic and cut it to fit my table thats not the problem it,s when you have to cut it to fit all the angles and curves to fit around the machine and the angles on machine.

I made mine el cheapo. Here's a video on how to make your own from blue board insulation sheets. I did the same but with styrofoam sheets. Cheap and easy peasy and you can find the stuff at any hardware store. I covered mine with a cheap dollar store vinyl table cloth for a slippery surface, but you can also use plastic sheeting as in the video.
