My parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary and we are having a party for them. My sister and I would like to make quilt blocks for people at the party to put sentiments on and then make them into a quilt. My parents love batiks and we thought blues and greens would be nice. Many of the patterns I see are mostly white.
I need a pattern for a block that has room to write a few words, still has lots of color, and is simple enough for us to both do even though we live in separate parts of the country.
    Any ideas?

I am looking for something about 8-10 inches. I don't like triangles but will do them if necessary.

Glassnquilts, My grandmother had blocks made for each of us in the pattern above. Instead of signing each one, she varied the centers but I remember the pattern being called a friendship block. They wouldn't have to include triangles if this is the pattern you had in mind. It's a 10" block.
    Best Wishes.
