I don't see the point of Thangles. Our grandmothers, great grandmothers and great gr....... seemed to do just fine without all this fancy stuff.

I have used them for 2 whole quilts i made called "milky way" by Thangles.

i think they are very expensive but i was new to quilting/piecing and both quilts were going to be raffled off..i wanted them to look thier best! i have some left over for both projects.

    i liked them.

I agree, they are really great. I'm allso in the "don't like Thangles" camp, tried them several times, and think they are a pain in the you know where.

I'm with you. I've tried several times to work with thangles but never seem to get it just right. So, I figured my best bet was to learn HST the normal way and I'm just more accurate. I, too, did a BOM at the LQS and hated every minute of it. Besides, I think it took me longer using the paper product than learning it the regular way.

It works like I think thangles work, but I have found this very easy to do as well as successful. I think a few HST's were a bit small, but that was probably my fault, either in stitching or cutting.
I have used Thangles and these look easier. Thank you. :-D

I love thangles! I, too, am doing BOM at LQS and have had no problems using thangles in 2 different sizes. I shorten the stitch length, fold the paper, put my thumbnail right against the seamin the center on the flat side and pull the point. It comes apart very ealily.

Stitching on the line never gave me a true 1/4" no matter how hard I tried. They suggested that I sew just a thread outside the line which I did but then the corners didn't come out right. I put my thumbnail on the sewing line and ripped the thangle off as was demonstrated but no matter how I did it, usually, there was some still stuck to the fabric at the ends and when I pulled it off it undid the stitches at that end and I had to resew. Plus my finished block was always still too small.
I love using the paper patterns. Did you use a bigger needle and smaller stitches? That helps when it's time to remove the paper. I always fold the paper on the stitching line before hand too, and most of the time it comes off easily. As for seam lines, try using the "Add A Quarter Ruler" to trim your seam allowances. The edge on the ruler butts up to the paper fold, and when you trim you get a perfect allowance. Don't give up yet. Good luck!
