    Default Machine malfunction?

I have a JUKI HZL 400 I have had it for 1.5 years and use it weekly for several hours, no heavy duty sewing. I turned it on today and it only sewed in reverse and very small stitches which appear to be zigzag. I shut it off, rethreaded it, changed the bobbin, the needle, changed stitches, pressed the reverse button and it still sewed in reverse. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I bring it in for repair?

Did you try to unplug it and wait for a few minutes before plugging it in again? It may reset the machine. Good luck - I hope you find the problem without a repair visit.

I had that problem with my Bernina just once. I did unplug it and walked away for a while saying a prayer. It seems to have reset itself and it never happened again.

It sounds to me like your button may be stuck. Check carefully for lint/dirt/grime in and around the button. With machine off, clean your buttons per manufacturer's suggestions for cleaning materials.
It won't hurt the machine to take the cover off..(just tape each screw near each hole as you go), so you can put it back together with the right screws in the right place..then check your reverse button to see if it's jammed with lint or dirt. While you have it open, take a very soft brush and clean lint from anywhere that you see it.

No luck with unplugging it. I will bring it in for repair. Thank you all for your advise.
