    Default Machine names

    Is there a listing on the net of all the machine makers and models? Sometimes with people posting by just the machine number with no maker I have a hard time figuring out which machine it is they are asking about. Am I the only dumby that has problems identifying machines without make and model?

    I would like to know that too. I'll be watching this one.

    I figure if I don't recognize the number then I don't have anything to say about the machine. But over time you will learn to recognize that 15-91 is a vintage Singer, 6600 is a Janome, 440 is a Bernina, etc.

    Tartan ... you could always make it a pet project ... and start diarizing them, like I have with the acronyms and definitions. I'll be posting an updated thread as the list has grown considerably from the first.

    I'm sure many would appreciate you doing so.

    As a starter ... here's what I'd envision ... a list of the model numbers in numerical/alpha order then a list of definitions and manufacturers listed with model numbers.

    15-91 ... Vintage Singer
    440 ... Bernina
    6600... Janome
    7700 ... Janome
    12000 ... Janome
    DC 3050 ... Janome
    etc. etc. etc.

    ~~~~~~~~
    Bernina ... 440 (and list of models)
    DSM ... Domestic Sewing Machine
    Janome ... 6600, 7700, 12000, DC3050
    Vintage Sewing Machine ... with a definition
    etc. etc. etc.
    ~~~~~~~~

    Go for it Tartan! You'll have fun doing it and learn a lot as you go.

    It’s helpful when posters give the make as well as model number of the machine they’re referring to. I notice that some Bernina owners will even specify Bernina 830 Record to identify it. That’s nice.

    According to wikipedia, Bernina seems to recycle their model nos. The 530 was introduced in 1954 and again in 2011, the 730 in 1963 and 2006, the 830 in 1971 and 2008. Way too confusing!

    A list like QuiltE described would be great.

    I was hoping for a chart from the net QuiltE. I'd rather be sewing than doing research. I will just skip over post that don't identify the machine and hope someone more knowledgeable will take pity on them.

    There is one for dating vintage Singers and determining modem numbers but not what you are asking for that I am aware of.

    Oh I wasn't thinking of it being a research project ... just gradually build it up as you see the info
