I do FM on all my quilts with a Brother HS-2000. It has 5" of throat space. I puddle the quilt & do small areas at a time. I've made everything from Table Runners to a quilt probably pretty close to if not actually queen sized & everything in between. As long as I use my darning foot, my fingerless therapeutic gloves & plenty of light, I do just fine. No one has complained one bit & it's very rewarding!! Good luck with yours. Just take your time & enjoy the process.

I just finished quilting a large baby quilt on my old Bernina 830 Record today using the walking foot because my niece wanted straight line quilting. It is so much easier on my back, shoulder, and neck than FMQ. I had given up on FMQ because of the pain I had the last time I tried. I'm doing two more baby quilts over the next couple of weeks and will use different versions of straight line quilting because it is so much easier for me. On my own queen size quilt after those are finished, I'm going to try the serpentine stitch all over with a walking foot.

I have quilted everything from crib to queen size quilts on my Bernina Artista 200. When I needed to quilt an oversized king size quilt; I cut the batting into 3 parts and that worked quite well. By the way, silicon mats do not work for me. Although I think I have them secured, I always ended up sewing them into my quilt. After awhile, I decided they were too expensive when they had such a short life in my sewing room. Plus they were no fun to rip out from the back of my quilt. I find quilting on my DSM to be very relaxing, I just do not enjoy making the quilt sandwich.
