My oldest great niece is 5 1/2. I made a "Dazzling Diamonds" quilt out of batiks for her when she was born. It's pink and purple and green and blue, with a pink bed sheet for the backing. I just love it, even though it was one of my first machine quilts, and let's just say, the stitching is a "little" wonky.
A while ago, I was over there and it was carefully displayed on the quilt rack. I asked my niece why her daughter didn't have it on her bed?
She, of course, was shocked. Use it? It's too pretty!
So, I filled her in. I explained to her that yes, it's pretty, thank you, but it really IS meant to be used!
So yesterday the "gang" was over there celebrating a late Christmas and I was totally delighted to see the kids making a fort with the quilt lovingly draped over some chairs.
I told my great niece then that I had made it for her when she was a baby. Her eyes lit up like diamonds and she gave me the biggest hug a little sprite of a girl can give! My heart sang!

Yes!!! That's what my quilts are for: forts, sick in bed days, warm and cozy on a winter night.....:)

Quilt forts are awesome. My 4 kids recently covered our living room in a quilt city. Perfect.
