This is such a great idea! Wish I had thought of it but you can be sure I will be using that idea at a later date. I don't usually like bedskirts but I think this would look wonderful with a quilt that might be too small on a larger bed. Thanks for this!

I can't stand a quilt that is too big. It is too heavy, and in the middle of the night I usually want to stick my feet out for a while. These are my hot flashes. A few minutes later, they go back under the covers, but I couldn't do that with a quilt that hangs to the floor. Like others said, cover the depth of the mattress.

I usually make mine about 104x104. could you add some borders. I have added borders to a finished , quilted quilt.

I use a lot of queens and dbls with a bed skirt on my KING. Some i turn sideways and make shams to match. Shams are just fancy name for matching pillow cases. Easy peezy

If I'm going to make a big quilt I will lay the blocks across my full size bed and add an extra square to each side. I add boarders and may be do a normal stitch.

Making a queen size for my daughter's queen size sleighbed--she did not want it covering the side rails and with head and foot board it didn't need to hang over the end much either. We measured and 83" in width was what she wanted and making about 90" in length. With my quest room I use about the same size on a queen size and use a bedskirt--works fine.

I liked 96x96 to 100x100 when I had a queen bed. That was one of the perks of making my own, the ones from the store seemed too small for us. It is all a matter of personal preference.

I just added a 7" ruffle to 3 sides of a too-small finished quilt that I wanted to use on my king sized bed. I love the way it looks.

A queen mattress is only 60 x 78. Anything over that is hanging down. The 89 is a bit short for the length, but the side should work just fine. When I design my quilts, I always just make the real center design area 60 x 72 or so. Everything else is border. A 82 inch wide quilt gives you 11 inches of overhang each side. Unless you have one of them new fangled popper topper mattresses, it should look just fine. I think it will be just ducky. Make nice looking matching sham covers for her pillows and no one will notice. Functionally, the top is big enough for two people. tim in san jose
