Magic Eraser works because there is cleaner embedded in it. Use a nylon scrubbie or gum eraser to take out the lint on a cutting mat. Check out the instructions for keeping a cutting mat in good condition. They work!

Yes, they're great for the cutting mat, wet or dry. I generally just use a dry scotchbrite pad. Only wet it, if you plan on drying it when you're finished cleaning. Unless your cutting mat is soiled with water soluable (spelling?), I'd be content to use the dry pad.
