Maiden name on quilt?
#63
I use my first married name. -- the name of my sons. I had a lot of trouble when I renewed a passport with a hyphenated name -- also plane tickets don't have anough spaces. When I went back to the original name, I had to send my satin wedding book and a death certificate to get them to change it.
So all my quilts are with my first married name -- not my new married name

Both times I've married, I invited my fiance to share my birth name. Both declined.
I had trouble with my first set of in-laws for our entire marriage because they refused to address me by my name. They reasoned incorrectly that I was illegally using my birth name, even though the marriage license in this state makes no assumptions and allows you to put down your current legal names and then the names you want to use after marriage. In a way, I'm glad we didn't have children because I'm sure the in-laws' heads would have collectively exploded when they found out I was going to use my birth name for my children as well; I figured that anyone who physically shared in the actual pregnancy and labour would be welcome to have a say as to names but since that wouldn't happen, I would be doing all the naming.
With my second husband, there was never any question or fuss made. I wanted to use my birth name, so that's what they call me. I really like my in-laws!
