making a cubby hole quilt
I thnk the name is cubby hole. it's the center square with strips put around it. Anyway I want to make a new quilt for quest room before they come.center will be gray to match the carpet and hope to use up ALOT of my strips. Has anyone made the 2nd, 4th etc. rows by cutting the first block in half? That would off set the rows and no seam matching so it would go faster. Hope you understand what i mean! Not real good at computers so can't send a drawing....Thanks for this great group of people.

Is this the pattern you are talking about?

it's the right name, but doesn't sound like your description.

The Fons and Porter's TV show was about the Cubbyhole quilt today. Very easy and not to difficult. I have no idea about cutting it in half except wouldn't that make you block smaller that the regular cubbyhole one? Just thinking.

I think you want to make cubby hole blocks, but instead of making the columns of blocks match up, you want to offset every other column by half a block. It should look nice. I recommend you sew all the columns using full blocks. Then audition your idea by laying it out. If you like it, sew the columns together and then trim the top and bottom straight. Good luck. We would love to see your finished quilt,
