Default Making my own pattern for the first time ever!

My daughter is having a boy in July and wants a quilt with robots. I saw on here where a gal made one and loved it. I thought I could try and do the same. I want to take paper and tape it together to be large enough to be a baby size quilt and then hand draw the robots in different sizes. I am going to applique them all. So is all I have to worry about is the 1/4" seam between the robots?

Is this a good idea? If you have a better way of doing this, I'm all ears!! Thanks.

I would get some inspirational ideas by looking at "robot patterns" under Google photos. Good Luck!

I find a lot of inspiration by Googling "XYZ free coloring pages" ((put subject - like Robot - in the XYZ spot))

That's what I do too. If you need more inspiration you might try looking at movie posters and book covers from 1950s science fiction.
If you're doing applique why are you worrying about the 1/4" seam allowance? I don't think I completely understand the question. Your idea of making a full size mockup on paper is a good one. That way you can be sure of placement and scale before you start. It sounds like a fun project.

    What about something like this?

You could modify it any way you like. Just a thought - --
