    No i just fill up the pin cushion.At one time i went and raided a ant hill rinsed a few times threw a strainer let dry,works fine.Connie in CO

    An ant hill!?!?! Hope they weren't fire ants. I can't imagine wanting sand that badly. You definitely get the prize for recycling.

    I have one filled with wool and the outer covering is wool too. Have had it for 20+ years and pins never rusted, even in humid climates.

    I have used parakeet grit n gravel for years. I put it in an inner bag made of muslin that has been doubled folded and stitched. It keeps the pins and needles nice and sharp.
