You can use anything you want to in a quilt. I don't mix cotton and blends most of the time because when you wash the cottons you get the quilty look and when you wash the blends it is more flat or ironed looking so you get a different look when you wash the quilt. Hope I made that clear.lol However, I have mixed a lot of different types together and since it is all different it gives a lot of texture and feel to the quilt. Just which ever floats your boat. It is a long lasting fabric ususally too.

I have never used blends only because of piling. My friend has used sheets and had a terrible time with piling but I wasnt sure if her issue was poly batting or that it was a blend. Thought I'd watch for any feedback. I have always just used cotton for this reason and none of my quilts have ever piled. Thanks!

The Amish store I go to has a lot of pretty cotton/poly blends. I talked to her about them and she said they were fine to use in quilts, use either all blends or all cotton. just dont mix them together.

You can also use cotton blends for totes/purses. I've used them for my market bags and my raggy totes. If you are selling any, just list it on the tag.

I worried about that for awhile and then I said, "what the heck," and started using sheets from the thrift store. (Cheap prices!) I actually like the look. The sheets are slightly worn and feel very soft. I'm actually using both blends and 100% cotton together in an every day quilt that I'm making now. I plan to back it with 100% cotton, so it will still pucker up when washed.

On my bed right now is a quilt that my aunt made - 100% cotton hand embroidered blocks set with a blend (?) in the sashing and the cornerstones - and it has been washed and used for over 25+ years and it is in perfect shape - no difference in the feel or look of the blocks.

I really don't like to mix cotton and poly / cotton together in the same quilt block. It seems that with the higher heat of the iron for the cotton, the poly seems to get smaller and doesn't match up to the cotton pieces.
    Also,poly/cotton piles over time.
Poly/ cotton holds it's color much longer than cotton.
    To each they're own choice!

Sometimes the only color of a solid that I really want is in poly/cotton blends so I have used them. I mix them too and no one has ever complained about their quilts :)
