Making rules non-slip
#11
I use the little sand paper dots. But for around the house I have also used the rubber shelf liner that works great and also rubber cement. The rubber cement you have to let dry overnight. It does collect lint and wears off eventually but it did help.
You could probably make you own sandpaper dots with some double sided tape.

I use rubber cement and love it except the smell when coating. I find it picks up small threads and I will occasionally have to pull them off but it seems to happen less as you use it. I originally used the sandpaper dots but still had some slippage so I was told about the rubber cement and found it worked better for me.

My hands are not as steady as they were when I was young, so I need something to keep my rulers from slipping. I have tried sandpaper dots, Invisigrip, and rubber base cement. They all helped; but the thing that works for me all the time is what fxsts93kf uses---Grip Strips. I love, love, love Grip Strips! With them on my rulers, I have never had a slip. The strips can be removed and used on other rulers. I did that several times before I invested in more strips. Now, I leave the strips in place as I am not sure how many times you can move them before the adhesive wears out. By the way, sometimes I cut templates out of an old Olfa rotary mat. With Grip Strips on the back of my templates, using them for cutting out, things like parts of a Double Wedding Ring, is a breeze. I highly recommend Grip Strips.

This is the best tool you will ever buy: I use it on top of my ruler, the ruler isn't going anywhere. And it's a must for safe rotary cutting. It's not a ruler.

I've been using "Glue Dots" (example here : http://www.staples.ca/en/Tatco-Glue-...5_2-CA_1_20001 ).
Have tried the Invisigrip which is nice in that there is no obstruction when you're measuring, but it didn't seem to hold the ruler steady reliably.
Have also used suction cup gizmos (examples here http://www.harborfreight.com/suction...ase-46900.html ) - single and double. There are ones sold at LQS's but much less expensive at hardware-type stores!

I use the grip strips and my ruler NEVER slips anymore. I used to have problems all the time with slipping but since I put grip strips on all my rulers I never have any problems anymore. Nice thing is you can cut them to any size to fit any ruler, half hexie, 60 degree etc. I'm not affiliated with the company I'm just really thankful for their product. And the price is very reasonable.

I use basting spray on the back of the ruler. Don't spray too much, but if you overspray, use a dry rag to remove some of it, as it can be very hard to re-position when there is too much basting spray on it.
The basting spray grips the fabric. Eventually, you have to re-spray, but a lot of time elapses between sprays.
Spray it outside so you don't wind up with basting spray on your things.
