I've been in several BOMs over the past few years and have discovered that by the time they're finally over I have no desire to finish the quilt. I was thinking that I could take the blocks and separate them into groups of 3 or 4 and make table toppers from them. Wouldn't this work? Has anyone ever done this and did it work for you?
I thought it might be a way to use up all the orphan blocks I have laying around and since my sister organizes a community craft sale every year maybe I could sell some next year.

I think this is a great way to use up blocks. I started making 9 patch blocks this past summer during the 9 patch sew along and eventually plan to use these in tablerunners. Go for it.

I've not used orphan blocks, but it does sound like a great way to use what you've already made. Seems as long as can find a common color or fabric to make sashing that you've got some beauties on your hands.

I would think you could also make placemats out of them by adding strips to get them the right size. Your table runner idea is excellent.

I have done this many times, It's amazing how beautiful some of them turn out. You can also add borders and borders in-between.

They can be used for potholders too.

I have often looked on quilter's cache to find blocks of the same size and dreamed of making a "sampler" type wall hanging or runner. It is still a dream but where would we be without dreams...
