Default Manufacturers need to wise up on what quilters want.

When will they make a simple machine with a bigger throat? It shouldn't have to be an expensive machine just bigger. All I want is a large throat for FM quilting and a straight stitch. Doesn't have to be super fast, electronic, or super heavy duty. Old Singers seem to have huge throats, so I know they started out that way. Why pay big bucks for a commercial machine? Anyone else feel this way?

Yes, I do and I have been looking for an older machine for that reason. So far, no luck but that's my excuse for going to estate and garage sells. LOL

Unfortunately, the companies are in it, for the money.

I agree with Nessie. If "they" can sell you 2 machines, that's the path "they" take.

Juki makes a machine that has a large throat and straight stitch. I have an older model but I think the newer ones are still fairly simple.

I know they are businesses, but I think they would sell alot of machines to people like me who don't want the fancy electronics, just more space. I am looking into the Juki's. I have several friends with one.

Or maybe it's because not all quilters want the same thing. I want a larger throat space but I also want programmable stitches, multiple needle positions, needle up/down, etc, etc.

Juki makes a straight stitch only, high speed machine for a reasonable price. Having a heavy duty machine is not a bad thing when you're doing hours of fairly high speed sewing. I had one and sold it to help pay for the Janome 6600.

Sewing machines are even more of a personal choice than a car. You just have to keep looking until you find the one that suits your needs.

Being left-handed, and pinning from that direction, I wish they might re-design them so that I can reach the pin without scrunching my hand.

I've been looking for the exact same thing too. I think the trend toward bigger, more gizmos, and expensive machines limits the number of people who can purchase a machine and learn to quilt.
