Smile marking a quilt where the material is dark or batik

I have a quilt I am hand quilting, but can't find a way to mark the borders using a stencil- material is dark purple and a green batik. I am not going to wash the quilt. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I like the Clover fine line white pens. It takes a few seconds for the line to appear, but it doesn't rub off. You will have to iron it to get the mark off.

A soap marker is another option.

A pounce pad should work ok.

I use the chalk rollers ... then if it doesn't come off on it;s own enough, a few flicks of a lint brush and it;s gone.

I use slivers of soap, pieces that aren't large enough to use in the bath. Put an iron to it and the mark disappears or just a dab of water.
