I use the 60mm cutter for thick fabrics - fleece, flannels, denim, corduroy- I use the 45 for regular cottons, 2-4 layers. If I’m cutting more layers I grab my 60. So, for basic cutting regular quilting cottons the 45 is all you need, if you make flannel quilts or back quilts with fleece - Minky, etc the 60 might be needed. ( I have cut plenty of flannels and fleece with my 45, it’s just easier with a larger blade )

I have the 45 and use it for the biggest part of my cutting, just feel like I have a bit more control with it. Use my 60 for fleece, flannel and more than 6 layers. Only use Martelli and Olfa as they seem to last the longest on my Martelli board.

My quilting class teacher started many years ago cutting kits at Susie's. She "showed off" and cut the borders for all of us in the beginners class at once. Just stacked all of out fabric and used a 60. Borders for about a dozen quilts all in a couple of passes. I never cut enough layers at once to use a 60.
