You can use other blades, however, they do not fit as well, Using Olfa or other blades will, after a while, cut the bold. I find that the Martelli blades are sharper and last MUCH longer than the Olfa blades. I go months (read dozens of quilts) before I have to change the blade. It is recommended to use their blades. Because of how long they last I find them a better buy in the long run!!!

Have the cutter, love it. Also have the binding system. Love the little binding gun and clips. Could NOT get along with out them. Anyway, the cutter works on all my mats. Love, love love them Martelli's.

I have had the cutter for three years and love it - have had carpal tunnel and rotator cuff surgery and still have problems with both - I can cut with this painlessly. My husband and I saw the table and mat system for sale 3 years ago at a show but sisn't get literature because we could not afford it, I already had my cutter. Last month we were fortunate enough to see David at another show with all the new items and table which raises and lowers electronicly to help you cut across and get the correct height, I definitely will be savin for the show next year to make this purchase - because it was a small show he was offering the complete system fot 1/2 price.

I use the martelli cutter only now. i have at three other types but like Martelli best. I also bought their rotating mat. I bought the mat with a second mat which is an iron on surface. the mat set was expensive but I do use it frequently esp the cutting mat.

I have the adjustable table, which I like, very sturdy. I like the mat and the cutters. I have a couple of the rulers. They work well and hold the fabric firmly, but I seldom use them because they are solid black. I like to be able to see through the rulers to help line things up. I do think that they have good products.

I have the cutter and also bought the large ruler that lets you do strips (it has slits that the blade fits into for accurate strip making). I LOVE both and the cutter is all I use now. I think the blade is standard.
