I made spray starch: water and corn starch, added essence of Lavender...cheap!! : ) I do have Mary Ellen's, which I use spareingly.

I think it is way better than other startches. It doesn't flake on dark fabric and I love it. It is just stiff enough to make your work accurate and looking nice.

My friend gave me my first bottle and I loved it but when I went to purchase and found out the price I refused to buy it. I have also used Magic Sizing with good results. I have however been making a product that is reported to be similar that works beautifully. There are many posts on this board about making your own. This is the recipe I use.

    2 cups distilled water
    2 ounces vodka
6 to 12 drops, 100 percent essential oil - at Hobby Lobby- lavender or sweet pea are good
    1/3 cup liquid starch

There is a recipie for making your own Best Press on this site somewhere.

cheap vodka, distilled water, and two drops of esential oil, your choice of scents.

edited to add: read above post! It is correct.
I think alcohol is 'sugar' so I will wash things before attracting ants, etc.

I love it because it doesn't flake and smells so nice! I just bought a bottle recently to treat myself. Usually use Premium Faultless from Walmart under $2. Does a great job and much cheaper. But, I will still get my bottle refilled for $5 at a LQS once in a while...just cause...

If it were cheaper, I would use it all the time. Gotta love the fresh linen sent.

I love it, and I use the nonscented. Yes, it's pricey, but a bottle lasts me a good while. Also, some shops will refill your bottle for less than the price of a new bottle.
