    Default Masculine Flannel Quilt

I would like to make a few flannel quilts but was wondering if rag quilts were to feminine looking for the guys? Or should I stick to a more masculine pattern?

And while I am one the subject of flannels, what is the difference between 100% flannel and 100% cotton shirting flannel? The shirting flannel is so much softer!!!!!

    Thank you !!

I think if you stuck with masculine colors it will look great !! Not sure about the difference between flannel and cotton shirting except that doesn't the shirting have a cotton like side to it??? Good Luck. I think he will be delighted with whatever you make for him !!

I made my boys rag quilts from flannel and they are very masculine. I picked solid black flannel and a plaid flannel that was gold and black...(school colors) I really like the colors of those

Either plaid and solid flannel or plaid flannel(s) with denim work great for guys, whether in regular quilt design or as a rag quilt.

I made one for my son and it was definitely manly. I used all different flannels plaids and a solid red and black to offset it. came out really nice.

Well you said it. Shirting flannel is so much softer. Most things softer just happen to be warmer. I've been looking for flannel shirts at estate and yard sales but not plaid. Have only found couple and they were for kids. Took them anyway.

I made one for a girl my son served in the Marines with last year for Christmas . He has never commented on a quilt I have made, if fact voices aggravation with my sewing stuff strewn about . He watched me clipping the quilt and after a bit he says " that is a bad a** quilt , who's it for " and then asked if he could use it one night before I sent it to "break it in " LOL
