    I like Janome. I have also discovered the joys of buying USED machines from a reputable local dealer. Just as with cars, the savings on a sewing machine that someone else had first are so substantial that I will probably never buy a new machine again.

    I have the Viking Emerald 118. I love it for piecing, but it has a very small throat area, and I think that would make it difficult to FMQ. I do wish it had a single hole throat plate. I find it tends to really want to eat fabric when I start a seam, worse than any other machine I've used.

    I also have the Juki 2010Q and I love it. I have it on a Grace Frame. Its heavy for me to move so I went back and purchased a Juki Exceed HZL F300 and I love it. Its not that much over your price range. I will PM you with details. Jan

    Thank you everyone for all of the suggestions and recommendations! I'm still in the process of making a decision, and I will keep you posted on what I decide. Leaning towards a Juki, I think
