I have several dress shirts mostly plaids and would like to know more about using shirts for lap quilts. How to cut, what a good pattern would be etc. Any information on this would be appreciated. It would be a memorial lap quilt.

You might want to google bonnie hunter. She makes quilts from shirts. She also has several free patterns on her site. And has 3 or 4 books for sale.

One great site is thethriftyquilter.blogspot.com/2009/06/seven-shirts-seven-steps-one-thrifty.html. Shows a great way to deconstruct the shirts for the quilt she made, but the method could be used for many other patterns. Another post is Brian's Grandpop Quilt on 7-1-11 by Donna H-M here on Quilting Board. Search "Men's Shirt Quilts" and it brings up many. Hope this helps--so kind of you to do this for your friend. Hugs to you both.
