My opinion only, I love to see all the fancy LAQ artists on the board. However, unless I am going to enter a quilt in a show (doesn't happen often) or it is something extra special, my budget only allows me to use the least expensive quilter I can find as long as the job is decent. We had a group of 4 older brothers and sisters in our area that never married. They lived in this large home and loved to quilt. The two ladies did piecing (had 7 industrial machines) and the men did the quilting. They did pantos, had a very large room (40 x 60') and had 3 LAQ machines. They were well known in our area and had a very large living room where they displayed the quilts they did and sold to the public. They had a large custom made table about 15' x 14' where you could place your quilt and backing for sandwiching. This has been about 6 years ago and two of them have died and they no longer do the quilting but their prices were very reasonable. $35 for full, and $10 more for queen and king. If they furnished the batting, they charged an additional $10. They did a wonderful job and I do miss them. Sorry for rambling but Sewnso's comments about price reminded me of the Kings and how much I miss them.

I am envious of your LAQers that are less expensive. My tops are not going into quilt shows and, as I am still learning, have lots of mistakes. I just need someone to do simple quilting on them. I understand and agree with the higher prices for custom quilting but right now just looking to get some done.

I use starch when making quilts and have NO PROBLEMS with quilting them! As long as there's no big, hard globs of glue, there should be no problem with the longarm needle going through the lightly applied glue.

Quilts returned with pleats in the back....NO NO NO!
Threads dangling .... NO NO NO!
.05 per square inch for meander/stippling....NO NO NO!
$45 for a queen or king size....ahhhh be careful....
