    Default Minky Dot Fabric Question

Love this fabric, but have never actually used it. I read somewhere that if you dry it in your dryer, the dots will disappear because of the heat. Is this true? Have any of you worked with this fabric and actually washed and dryed it? I was thinking it would be great to stipple around all the dots....not to mention how incredibly soft it is. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the dryer but I have heard not to iron it. Can be a bit stretchy and messy to work with. Pin well and one way stretches less than the other direction.

I use basting spray and my baby quilts turned out great. I did not use the minkee with dots.

I have used the dotty minky to back a few kids quilts, they have been washed & dried numerous times, still dotty. I don't knowledgeable about actually quilting around all those dots though.... That would not be an easy thing to do and would also really diminish the soft, minky characteristics. Generally you want kind of large, minimum quilting - just enough to hold the quilt together and satisfy the batting requirements if batting is used. You need to loosen the tension a tad and use a longer stitch length than normal when quilting minky

I would not quilt around the dots. I use it all the time. The dots do disappear when you iron but pop back out with washing. It is really great to use. I have just made a baby quilt and two mini infant carrier blankets (size of a FQ). I have used batting and I have done just the top and mink. Just remember who it is made for and the climate they live in. minky is warm already and then depending the batting you add it could make it a sweltering blanket. It does have stretch so use a basting spray or glue of some type. Just to help keep the stretch from getting crazy.

Yes, if you dry it in an extremely hot dryer, the dots will disappear. If you iron it with an iron set on "cotton" they will disappear. I have, however, ironed it quickly on a polyester setting, and it's been OK.

I think when you iron, not the dryer

I use it all the time on baby quilts and I always wash it but I never use fabric softner in the washer I throw a dryer sheet in and have never had my dots disappear? you can't use a high heat and your right if you iron it it will melt.

I found that it helps to pin like crazy when working with minkee. It also make a huge mess when it's cut. Good luck
